About Us

About us

Fisheries Technology includes aquatic creatures’ production and evaluation from the any aquatic environment by hunting and aquaculture. It focuses economical marine and fresh water creatures’ production, preservation and use as food by more aquaculture. This area aims to emphasize sustainability with controlled production and ensure maximum benefit to the economy. Fish in particular, mollusks of bivalve, mollusks (shrimp, crabs, etc.) and algae are the creatures of the study.

It is one of the four sub-sectors along with plant production, animal production and forestry within the fish, agriculture and agriculture-based industry. Our water resources, export potential in production and providing employment opportunities from production to marketing make the fishing profession attractive in our country. This sector is one of the two fastest growing sectors in our country with the production of water creatures and food processing. An important part of the production in the sector is realized in Marmara Region. Marmara Sea and the Dardanelles; is the migration routes of many species of fish due to sea water and coastal properties. Also, natural sponge beds and bivalve production due to structural features of the rich nutritional content of rocks and marine water and is allowed to provide their cultivation. For example, in this region there are 10 private sector production projects that have shellfish farming and processing purposes attempts to obtain approval from the as The Ministry of Agriculture and Forest.

For this purpose, the aim of the “School of Fisheries Technology”, is to contribute to aquaculture and fisheries sector which has high production potential in Dardanelles. To make the region an “attraction center” with new technological applications for production and evaluation. Furthermore, it is aimed to provide the students with scientific and sectoral training in order to educate the experts.

Mission

The researcher and practitioner needed by the fisheries sector, complement their field of work with their professional knowledge, equipped with the infrastructure intended for the application as well as the theoretical knowledge, can use the computer well, can meet the sector needs and follow up the current problems related to the sector and have the ability to produce solutions who are prone to team work, ready to compete, to educate people who love their profession and country, to give innovative and creative graduates, to work in the academic sense for the development of this sector.

Vision

To contribute to meet the needs of the sector related to fisheries, marine and freshwater production and processing and to become a scientific center at national and international level.

Job Opportunities

Graduates of the Department of Fisheries Technology have the opportunity to find employment in all kinds of international and national enterprises in accordance with the training program they receive. These enterprises are aquaculture companies, fish-making companies, processing plants that produce food from aquaculture and hunting, and supplier companies that produce various materials needed in these sectors. In addition to the private sector, our graduates can also work in public and institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Unit. Especially in the private sector qualified qualified intermediate elements are in great demand. The fact that the department has a student oriented approach to practice will give the graduates the status of qualified personnel in the sector. In addition, graduates are entitled to graduate education since the department has a 4-year undergraduate program.

Targets

Our aim is to contribute to the development of the natural resources and fisheries sector through the researches we will carry out in the Marmara Sea, and to educate the technologists who are aware of the water and aquatic life in the aquatic environment.
